The answer is really two fold here, and there are no wrong answers. Any exercise will help you lose some weight. However, what you need is a combination of cardio to attack the fat and some resistance/weight training to tone up/build muscle. The other important thing when you engage in exercise which should be a part of your life, you need to choose exercises from both of these categories so that you don’t get bored and quit.
